Day 6 - Saturday 8/3/13 Wall, SD - Rapid City, SD (214 Miles)

Badlands, SD ( "Downies")
Badlands, SD ("Uppies")
We spent today in The Badlands National Park, SD.  Wow!  What an amazing place this is with landscapes drastically different from one another around every corner.  Our first glimpse off the prairie was of a dramatic drop off of bluffs and eroded land (erosion that occurred downward).  Around the next corner, we'd find ourselves driving among these spires of delicate rock that had eroded, seemingly, upward.
Big Horn Sheep (Ewe), cliff side.

So many Prairie Dogs in their expansive prairie dog town.

Huge bison right in our path!
Bigger than our Mini Cooper.

Lunch spot with a view.
Our view for lunch was fantastic from beneath one of the sun shelters.
The Lakota Indians of this region prayed not for their own well being, but for that of the buffalo because they were so dependent on it.  Check out the chart showing their uses of the animal...
