Day 3 - Wednesday, 7/31/13 Sault St. Marie, MI - Christmas, MI (137 Miles)

Edison Hydro Power Plant
This morning, we toured a retired lake freighter permanantly moored near the Edison hydro power plant in Salut Saint Marie, MI that houses the world's largest horizontal hydro turbine in the world.  For it's age, the plant seems to go on forever!  Toured the retired lakes freighter, Valley Camp today.  The galley would have been interesting to cook in for the 20-odd crew and the mates' quarters were still fairly well preserved and fairly spacious.  The ship carried iron ore primarily from Wisconsin to ports east on the great lakes.Tried the local Whitefish caught in the St. Mary river, for lunch (no, we didn't catch it) which was nice, but not nearly as good as the great Lake Erie Yellow Perch.

Rain on Rt. 28 in MI
Leaving Sault Saint Marie for Wisconsin and Minnesota, we met hellacious rain, like none I've encountered before.  Check out this video...
Bay Furnace Campground, Christmas, MI
Camped for the first time on this trip in Christmas, MI at Bay Furnace National Park (N.P.) Campground.  Of course, it rained, but fortunately only a little.
