Day 14 - Sunday 8/11/13 Salt Lake City, UT - Reno, NV (524 miles)

On the road again.
Set out early today, around 6:00am to drive west past Salt Lake and through the salt flats (Morton Salt) harvests here.  This was the straightest road I'd ever been on.  A fellow in SLC mentioned that along the road west we'd see a manufactured "tree" that a Swede had built at the cost of millions of dollars, just so there would be something vertical to break up the scenery heading west.  We also

passed the Bonneville Salt Flats, but decided not to stop.  Being a Sunday, it was an uneventful, quick and easy trip - just as we planned.  We arrived in Reno early afternoon and checked into our cheap room at the Atlantis Hotel & Casino, where, yes, smoking is still permitted in all public places :(-  Dad, you would have loved it - right up your alley (not).  Played slots and Black Jack on and off throughout the evening with a net loss of $4. Rick was throwing around his nickels like they were manhole covers - a gambler he is not - though the $4 "expense" was not bad for an evening of "entertainment".  They do still have penny slots - tho' now everything is electronic and requires that you bet 40 pennies for each tug of the one armed bandit...clever buggers, huh?  To escape the smoke both inside the casino and out (wildfires burning in Tahoe made it very smokey in town), we retired to our room to prepare to blow the joint early the next morning.
